A Needs Assessment (NA) is a document that demonstrates the need for instruction on a particular topic among physicians and other healthcare professionals. Moreover, a well-written Needs Assessment can serve as the foundation for one or more educational interventions, including instructional content and outcomes measurement.

About the Presenter: Ruwaida Vakil, MS is a freelance medical writer, communications specialist, and owner of ProMed Write, LLC. She is a former bench-top research scientist who specializes in CME, patient education, sales training, and medical communications.
Ruwaida completed her MS in Immunology at the University of Toronto and the Ontario Cancer Institute. She is the former secretary and current Freelance Workshop co-chair for the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) Delaware Valley Chapter. She has presented at the conferences of AMWA and the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP). She co-authored an award-winning poster on Best Practices for Writing CME Needs Assessments. The poster received the People’s Choice award from the ACEHP in 2016. She has also co-authored an AMWA training guide on writing CME needs assessments, and has presented in-person and virtually to global publication leaders in the pharmaceutical industry.
